NREI: What role will you be taking as MHI gears up for the launch of AptData?

Brady: Education and outreach are my top priorities. We want everyone connected to the industry to understand AptData's many uses and, therefore, are reaching out to apartment owners, lenders, the capital markets and property managers. We also want the industry to be ready to use AptData by the time we are on the Internet early next year. Our challenge is to make sure we always stay current with industry information needs. To that end, we are now conducting focus groups with members from the private and public sectors as we define the structure and agenda of a Research & Publications Council. This body will address the multifamily industry's needs for various standards, indices and benchmarks. In addition, we are exploring links with industry organizations, data providers and others.

NREI: What mark do you hope to make as CIO of ULI?

Brady: ULI and the Multifamily Housing Institute have nearly the same mission. As the premier research and educational organization serving real estate as a whole, ULI is well-positioned to serve as a model for how real estate and capital can harness information and technology. I will be looking for ways to help make this happen. AptData is a specific way to meet the needs of one sector of the real estate community, and we can use it as a model for how we can better serve the rest of our members. We also intend to build on the success of the Dollars and Sense books and ULI's other services and printed resources -- using technology where it helps us prepare to enter the next century.
