Reaching Out to Latino Shoppers

Sonia Guillen says she will shop anywhere for fashions and deals.

The Phoenix Latina, 18, who lives near Cave Creek Road and Northern Avenue, says that she finds stylish tops and shoes that appeal to her at Metrocenter.

One of her favorite stores is BBB! Fashion, which targets teens in search of urban wear such as preppy Dickies apparel, tube tops and halters that are easy on the pocketbook.

Next door is Chicano Style, offering tank tops and T-shirts with Cesar Chavez, "Caliente" or "I love Pelones" (bald men) on them. T-shirts start at $17.

With high-end malls blooming all around the Valley, older Phoenix malls like Metrocenter and Desert Sky stay competitive through specialty retailers serving a changing, more-diverse market.
