Whole Foods' Brooklyn Store to Get Rooftop Greenhouse

Whole Foods' Brooklyn Store to Get Rooftop Greenhouse

Talk about providing locally-grown produce. Our sister publication, Supermarket News, reports that Whole Foods' new store in the Gowanus section of Brooklyn will feature a 20,000-sq.-ft. greenhouse on its roof. The greenhouse will enable Whole Foods to supply organic fruits and vegetables to its network of stores throughout New York City.

According to Whole Foods, the greenhouse will be the first one of its kind in the nation to be integrated with an operating grocery store. The retailer's Gowanus location is scheduled to open this fall.
