Matrix Development Group-Built Medical Office Building Achieves LEED Certification

NEW JERSEY—Cranberry, N.J.-based Matrix Development Group has achieved Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for a 12,000-sq.-ft. medical office building it built located in Bucks Co., Pa. The property, developed for and now owned by Lower Bucks Pediatrics, is located within Matrix Development’s Octagon Center, a mixed-use master-planned community.

LEED designation is designed to promote design and construction practices that increase profitability while supporting sustainable building methods and improving occupant health.

Octagon Center includes retail and residential components and covers 186 acres.

“Medical office facilities, and pediatric offices in particular, use a significant amount of energy and water due in part to the individual HVAC controls and sinks in each examination room, presenting challenges to the creation of an energy-efficient work environment,” said Richard F.X. Johnson, SVP of Matrix Development Group and head of the company’s Renewable Energy Services Division. “From the beginning, Lower Bucks Pediatrics was determined to make this an energy-efficient property, which is in line with Matrix’s own commitment to sustainable development practices. Ultimately we were able to identify a solution to deliver a dynamic facility that is environmentally responsible while providing Lower Bucks Pediatrics with significant cost savings on energy consumption.”
