Schindler Elevator Gets Energy Award for North American HQ

NEW JERSEYSchindler Elevator Corporation has received the Building Owners and Managers Association of New Jersey’s (BOMA-NJ) 2012 Alternate Energy First Place Award for its solar installation project completed at its North American headquarters building in Morristown.

Completed last year, the 250-kilowatt solar system, comprised of 1,236 photovoltaic solar panels, produces 310,000 kWh of electricity per year. Each panel generates 230 watts of renewable energy and provides approximately 11 percent of the building’s total annual power consumption.

Schindler has a dedicated website (http://adema.kiosk-view.com/schindler) and a lobby kiosk that provides real-time data on the energy-savings, carbon reduction and environmental impact of the building’s new solar roof.

In addition to its solar project, Schindler has incorporated other building upgrades at the building. Such improvements include replacement of single-pane windows with energy-efficient, insulating dual-pane windows; replacement of internal and external lighting systems, equipped with daylight sensors; replacement of carpeting with carpet tiles that can be recycled and replaced piece-by-piece; new ceilings made of recycled content; new escalators with energy-efficient mechanicals; and dual-flush, metered plumbing fixtures.
