BARNEGAT—The Walters Group expects to begin construction this month on the affordable rental apartment component of Whispering Hills. Totaling 52 units, the affordable housing community will be located off Rose Hill Road, between Barnegat Boulevard and Route 9. The first phase is slated to open in late fall of 2012.
The new LEED-certified residences will consist of six two-story and one one-story buildings, featuring 52 spacious one-, two-, and three-bedroom units. Each apartment will be equipped with Energy Star-rated appliances, designed to help residents save minimally 15 percent and upwards to 35 percent on energy usage.
Residents will also have access to a tot-lot playground, recreational field and walking trails. The community is ideally positioned near recreational amenities including swimming, fishing and boating.
LEED-certified homes are more energy efficient than conventional non-green homes, translating into savings for homeowners. In addition, Walters’ residential developments are Energy Star-certified, saving residents as much as 35 percent on gas, electric and water costs.
