NEW YORK—Con Edison has released a statement indicating that it expects to restore power to the majority of its customers who lost power during Hurricane Sandy by this upcoming weekend. Remaining customer restorations could take an additional week or more. As of Saturday afternoon, the company had Con Edison had restored power to 226,000 Manhattan residents; 130,000 Brooklyn residents, 33,0000 Queens residents and approximately 41,0000 Bronx residents.
Approximately 900,000 customers served by underground and overhead electrical equipment in New York City and Westchester County lost power due to the storm.
In underground areas, Con Edison crews working to restore service had to pump water out of the facilities, as well as clean components, dry, repair and replace, as necessary.
