Planned openings: 18 additional stores-within-a-store are planned by 2013; eventually the retailer may break off on its own. Average store size: From 1,700 to 4,000 sq. ft.

Target audience: The same demographic that shops at Crate & Barrel.

Buzz: Marimekko’s selling point are its bold, colorful prints, says NKF’s Groves. “It’s very dynamic,” she notes. “Consumers get really tired of what’s out there and they want something different. They want the shopping experience to be exciting.”
