Turnaround artists in the hotel sector are in great demand these days as many properties remain under financial pressure. Marshall Hotels & Resorts Inc., a hotel management and services company, has been appointed receiver for the Holiday Inn Danbury in Connecticut and Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Suites Allentown Airport in Pennsylvania. The company also has been named operator of the Holiday Inn Buffalo Amherst Hotel in New York, which is currently in receivership. The assignments were announced in early December.

“We are seeing lenders becoming increasingly more aggressive in taking back hotels,” says Mike Marshall, president and CEO of the Salisbury, Md.-based company. “For these three properties, we will focus initially on what we believe are substantial opportunities in marketing and food & beverage to substantially increase revenues.”

Marshall Hotels & Resorts has expertise in operating three- and four-star branded hotels and resorts. The company has a proven track record managing independent resort and unique urban properties, and has managed a wide array of leading hotel brands that include Hilton, Starwood, InterContinental Hotel Group, Hyatt, Choice and Wyndham.

About the hotels

The 114-room Holiday Inn Danbury is a full-service hotel that offers banquet space to accommodate up to 200 people. Marshall will oversee a renovation of the hotel’s restaurant and lounge. The pet-friendly property has a 24-hour fitness center, seasonal pool, and book nook library.

The Four Points by Sheraton Hotel & Suites Allentown Airport is located near historic downtown Bethlehem, Dorney Park & Wild Water Kingdom, Blue Mountain Ski Area, Lehigh Valley Mall and Lafayette College. The 145-room hotel has 4,500 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space.

The Holiday Inn Buffalo Amherst Hotel is a short distance from Niagara Falls, downtown Buffalo, HSBC arena and 30 minutes from Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. The 199-room property offers an indoor heated pool, fitness center with Jacuzzi, and more than 3,500 sq. ft. of flexible meeting space with audio-visual equipment, and a full-service restaurant.
