Peter Hobbs to Head Up Business Development for IPD

Peter Hobbs will join London-based IPD, a global information business, as senior director and head of business development beginning in September. Hobbs comes from RREEF, the real estate investment management business of Deutsche Asset Management.

Hobbs will become number two at IPD, helping managing director Laurent Ternisien with the organization’s commercial strategy. Hobbs will be responsible for product development, marketing and overall research. He will continue to work with RREEF and other major global clients on specific research projects and issues of industry-wide significance.

IPD provides real estate performance analysis for funds, investors, managers and space occupiers. The company offers a range of services including research, reporting, benchmarking, conferences and indices.

“It is great news that Peter has decided to join us,” said Ternisien in a press release. “Peter has a deep understanding of the real estate investment process, and has worked with some of the world’s largest and most innovative investors, helping them to understand and exploit the risks and opportunities of global real estate.”

Ternisien adds that the experience and skills Hobbs brings to IPD will help ensure that “our products remain relevant and that we support the property industry in converting information into knowledge.”

For his part, Hobbs stated that he is honored to be joining IPD, a company that he believes has played a critical role in helping the real estate asset class mature over the past 25 years. “One of the most profound lessons of the most recent downturn across global markets has been the need for greater transparency and improved understanding between investors and managers,” remarked Hobbs.

“Markets might be coming out of this downturn, but there remains much to do before real estate becomes truly accepted as a mainstream asset class,” Hobbs continued. “ I am greatly looking forward to working with my new colleagues, clients and partners to reinforce the attractiveness of real estate to institutional investors.”

For the past five years, Hobbs has held a number of senior roles at RREEF, where he helped build an integrated research platform. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Reading in England and is a frequent speaker at industry events and conferences,
