Kaplan, Moats develop industrial site in downtown Atlanta

The Kaplan Cos., Highland, N.J, and Atlanta-based Moats & Associates, have broken ground on The Highland, a 107-unit, $15 million townhome community in downtown Atlanta. The location is the former home of Prior Tire, a tire retreading company, and is one of a number of former industrial sites in the area to become more residential in character.

The project's clubhouse, fitness center, pool and 46 townhomes are scheduled for completion by fall, with complete build-out of the remaining units expected by the end of this year. Pre-construction prices for the three-story townhomes will start at $150,000. Homes are available in three models and sizes: The Highland, 1,380 sq. ft.; The Virginian, 2,145 sq. ft.; and The Piedmont, 2,212 sq. ft. Each model will feature private garages, tiled foyer entries, trey ceilings in all bedrooms and bay windows.

Moats president Kevin Moats says demand is growing for townhome living in Atlanta. "I'm surprised more aren't doing developments like this," says Moats. "There's great demand, but very little competition for the product, in terms of townhomes."
