Former church bells to ring as CityPlace complex opens
The $550 million CityPlace mixed-use complex is nearing completion in West Palm Beach, Fla. When completed, the bell tower of what used to be the First United Methodist Church will ring, celebrating the grand opening. Following a $7 million restoration and renovation, the former church will become the Palladium Cultural Arts Center. Developed by The Palladium Co., New York, CityPlace will be located at the intersection of Interstate 95 and Okeechobee Boulevard. Construction is slated for completion in December 2000.
CityPlace will have more than 600,000 sq. ft. of retail space, including 78 specialty stores, 10 restaurants, a Muvico 20-screen cinema and 586 private residences, which include town homes, rental apartments and live/work lofts. The development also has plans for three Class-A office buildings totaling more than 750,000 sq. ft. The first is scheduled to open in 2002.
The architecture of CityPlace will be reminiscent of a European town center and will feature a plaza, cultural arts center and a 2,500 sq. ft. fountain.
