New York - Club Monaco recently opened a new flagship in a landmark building at Fifth Avenue and 55th Street. The 12,000-sq.-ft. store will sell menswear as well as women's fashion, shoes and cosmetics. Club Monaco will occupy four floors at 699 Fifth Avenue, with the two bottom levels as retail space and top two for its corporate offices. The space was designed by local architect Deborah Berke.

The Toronto-based company, acquired by Polo Ralph Lauren last year, operates more than 100 stores around the world and is expanding in the United States next year by about 20 stores.

Shenzhen, China - This Chinese suburb near Hong Kong will be the new Asia-Pacific headquarters for the world's No. 1 retailer. Wal-Mart, Bentonville, Ark., is gearing up to expand its presence in China. Wal-Mart has added more than 4,200 stores in 10 countries to its chain but only eight are in China.
