Zell Promotes Heneghan to Equity International CEO

CHICAGOSam Zell, chairman of Equity International, has promoted Tom Heneghan to CEO of the locally based, privately held investor and builder of real estate firms.

Heneghan was previously CEO of Equity LifeStyle Properties Inc., an owner/operator of manufactured housing resort communities in the United States and British Columbia. Heneghan is now charged with providing strategic direction and overseeing all of EI’s activities and investment portfolio, which includes interests in Brazil, Colombia, India, China, Egypt and the UK/New Zealand, encompassing homebuilding, hospitality, corporate property, warehousing and distribution, self-storage and senior living.

“Tom has a long and successful track record building companies and platforms, and he brings exceptional leadership and operational experience that complement EI’s existing management team,” said Zell in a statement. “I am exceedingly pleased to have Tom lead EI.”

Heneghan will remain co-vice chairman of the ELS Board of Directors. He also serves on the Board of Governors of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts.
