TEANECK, NJ—Aspen Communities LLC has named John M. VanMetre director of operations. In this role, VanMetre, a 25-year real estate professional, will be responsible for the management and marketing of the company’s rental properties across the U.S.

VanMetre will oversee all aspects of operations, including financial budgets, customer service, maintenance, operations, leasing, occupancy and marketing of existing developments in Aspen Communities’ portfolio, as well as newly acquired assets.

Aspen Communities invests in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) properties throughout the country and improves and modernizes the properties to reintroduce them to market.

“We are actively pursuing new purchasing opportunities on the East Coast and Midwest with plans to acquire 3,000 HUD units by the end of 2013,” said Adam Mermelstein, principal of the Teaneck, N.J.-based company. “Each property we purchase undergoes a significant capital improvement program to bring the homes, grounds and common spaces up to modern standards.  John’s decades of experience and extensive knowledge will be instrumental in implementing and directing these programs from renovations to the reintroduction of thousands of apartments to the market.”

Prior to joining Aspen Communities, VanMetre served as regional manager for Conifer Realty LLC where he directed all operations and financial aspects from the company’s portfolio in Hudson Valley, N.Y.
