Hospital for Special Surgery Acquires Development Site for $31M

NEW YORK—Hospital for Special Surgery has picked up land in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, located mid-block at 517 and 523 East 73rd Street between York Avenue and FDR Drive, for $31 million. Vincent Carrega and Jon Epstein, principals at Avison Young, represented the seller, a private family owner.

Zoned for manufacturing and community space, the block can support more than 130,000 sq. ft. of development. Hospital for Special Surgery acquired the site for the expansion of its eastside campus. Located within a few blocks from the Hospital for Special Surgery’s main campus, the property is also in close proximity to other hospitals and medical centers on the Upper East Side.

Founded in 1863, Hospital for Special Surgery performs hip surgeries and knee replacements and is considered a leader in orthopedics, rheumatology, and rehabilitation.
