Barclays renews lease in biggest Manhattan deal since Sept. 11

In the biggest downtown space renewal to be negotiated since Sept. 11, financial services firm Barclays PLC has renewed its lease on 104,000 sq. ft. of office space at 222 Broadway.

Colliers ABR is the leasing and managing agent for the 32-story, 750,000 sq. ft. office tower owned by Merrill Lynch. According to Peter Riguardi, vice chairman of Colliers ABR, the $20 million transaction will help build confidence in the lower Manhattan market.

"Although they had a number of options under consideration, in the end, Barclays chose to stay at 222 Broadway because of the high quality of services at the building, it’s confidence in the future of Lower Manhattan, and its strong comfort level with Merrill Lynch," Riguardi says.
