Crate & Barrel deal wins REBNY Award

Cushman & Wakefield(C&W) recently won the Real Estate Board of New York’s "Retail Deal of Year Award Which Most Significantly Benefits the Manhattan Retail Market" for its efforts to help Chicago-based retailer Crate & Barrel make a major footprint in lower Manhattan.

Gene Spiegelman, a director in C&W’s Retail Services division, represented Crate & Barrel in the deal — a long-term lease for a 40,000-sq.-ft. store at 611 Broadway at Houston Street. According to C&W, the new store — Crate & Barrel’s second in the market — will bolster the intersecting NoHo and SoHo districts. The store, which is set to open later this year, will share the ground floor of the nine-level, beaux-arts Cable Building with the Angelika Film Center.

"Crate & Barrel has been looking for a second site in New York since we opened our Madison Avenue Store in March 1995," said the company’s CEO, Gordon Segal, in a prepared statement. " We have great confidence in the ongoing vitality of Manhattan and are pleased to be part of the revitalization of this wonderful neighborhood."
