Federated to Redevelop Roosevelt Field Anchor Spot

Federated Department Stores, Inc. plans to redevelop the former Stern's store at Roosevelt Field in Garden City, N.Y., into a Bloomingdale's Furniture Store and the area's first Galyan's store.

The new Bloomingdale's Furniture Store will occupy 65,000 square feet on two levels, offering a complete furniture assortment including bedding."Our customers look to us for fashion leadership in all areas of the business and in the new Roosevelt Field Furniture Store we will expand our offerings dramatically," said Michael Gould, chairman of Bloomingdale's, in a press release. "We'll soon be able to provide even more of what Bloomingdale's is known for: superior service, an exciting shopping experience and exclusive home furnishings."

The new Galyan's Sports and Outdoor Adventure store will occupy 100,000 square feet on two levels. It will feature a distinctive two-story glass facade, a fifty-five-foot-high interior atrium, metal and timber appointments and interactive elements, such as a signature rock-climbing wall. "We believe that Hempstead, Garden City and the Long Island area reflect the active lifestyle that we promote," said Robert Mang, chairman and CEO of Galyan's.

Once the new Bloomingdale's Furniture Store is complete, the current Bloomingdale's Roosevelt Field location will be extensively remodeled to feature a broader selection of fashion accessories, men's and women's apparel.

Construction on the two new stores is planned to begin this spring with store openings planned for fall 2003. Development efforts are ongoing regarding the additional 60,000 square feet of space in the building. The 2.14 million-square-foot super-regional mall is owned and managed by Simon Property Group. Current anchors include JCPenney, Loew’s Theatres, Macy’s and Nordstrom.
