Loehmann’s enters D.C. market

Loehmann's will open its first Washington D.C. store in March. The 30,000-square-foot, multi-level store will be located on Wisconsin Avenue in Friendship Heights—just south of Chevy Chase.

According to Eric Rubin, principal with Madison Retail Group, "This store fills a major void in the D.C. market and brings designer retail to the market at a better price. Loehmann's attracts high end customers and adds additional panache to the neighborhood that has other national and notable retailers such as Borders Books & Music, Pottery Barn, Neiman Marcus," says Rubin. The store is located near two key shopping centers—Chevy Chase Pavilion and Mazza Gallerie—and is down the street from Saks Fifth Avenue.

The actual lease was negotiated directly between Federal Realty Investment Trust and Loehmann's. Loehmann’s is an off-price, upscale specialty retailer known for its "Back Room" where designer apparel and accessories are priced 30 to 60 percent less than at department and specialty stores. The New York-based chain operates 44 stores in 16 states.
