Rainbow Foods makes Dallas debut

Lewisville, Texas-based Fleming Cos. Inc. has signed an agreement to acquire seven Super1Foods stores in the Dallas area from Tyler, Texas-based Brookshire Grocery Co. The purchase price was undisclosed. The seven stores represent $150 million in annual sales.

The deal, expected to close next month, includes two stores in Plano, and one each in Garland, Rowlett, Mesquite, Dallas and The Colony. Fleming plans to operate them under its Rainbow Foods banner.

"These stores do tremendous sales volumes. And, because of that, they are particularly well aligned with our distribution strategy of high volume and low costs to drive growth," said Mark Hansen, chairman of the board and CEO for Fleming.

Fleming also operates 101 additional stores in seven states under the Rainbow Foods and Food4Less banners.
