Starwood Announces Airport Hotel

Starwood Hotels & Resorts will develop an aloft hotel at the Philadelphia airport. aloft, Starwood’s new lifestyle brand, will develop a 136-room hotel at 4301 Island Avenue just 20 minutes from downtown Philadelphia.

“Philadelphia is home to the Liberty Bell, the Declaration of Independence and the best cheesesteaks in the nation,” says Ross Klein, president of the Starwood Luxury Brand Group. “Now Philadelphia will become home to something else —the first aloft in Pennsylvania.”

The hotel is slated to open in 2008. The aloft brand was designed by architect David Rockwell with the mission of “drawing guests from their rooms to socialize and make friends.” But that may be challenging since each aloft guest room will feature “multiple electronic gadgetry” connections for PDAs, cell phones, mp3 players and laptops that are all linked to a flat panel HDTV.
