New Sales Manager Joins Interlock Structures Glen Martinsen has been named regional sales manager for Minneapolis-based Interlock Structures, a company offering components and services for merchandising to retail chain accounts, store planners and designers. Martinsen will call on accounts in Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York, Maryland and New Jersey.

Architect Promoted at Callison Architecture Douglas K. Stelling has been promoted to principal at Seattle-based Callison Architecture Inc. Stelling leads the creation of environments for Callison's retail and entertainment clients worldwide. In addition to his responsibility for developing design concepts, he serves as leader of the firm's Image Design group, providing imaging, theming, graphics, signage, point-of-purchase and brand consulting. Stelling's recent projects include creating retail environments for the Power House at Square One Shopping Centre in Missisagna, Ontario; and Flatiron Crossing, an upscale retail lifestyle center in Broomfield, Colo.

Zakaspace Designs Newest Kincaid's Restaurant Seattle-based Restaurants Unlimited Inc. has announced that it will open its newest Kincaid's restaurant concept on March 12 in Norfolk, Va. This location, as well as future selected Kincaid locations, will be designed by Zakaspace design group of Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta. The Norfolk Kincaid's will be in McArthur Center, a newly constructed downtown shopping development. The 10,000 sq. ft. location will seat nearly 200 in the dining room plus 76 in the bar and lounge. Zakaspace will create an interior in keeping with the concept's style - a mix of deja vu and enduring contemporary elements. Design elements in the restaurant will include uplifting colors, textures, aromas and sounds. Nostalgic, oversized period artwork will reflect images of people and places important to the location's community history and geography, as well as artwork from prominent artists.

Architect Joins RTKL Fred Bobick has been appointed interiors team leader for the Washington, D.C., office of Baltimore-based RTKL Associates Inc. Bobick's career experience includes projects for corporate headquarters, conference centers, law firms, government agencies and restoration/preservation projects. Prior to joining RTKL, Bobick served as co-director of the corporate interior group for Brennan Beer Gorman & Monk P.C. in Washington, D.C.

Kann & Associates to Design Retail Entertainment Complex Baltimore-based Kann & Associates Inc. architectural firm has been selected to design the Colonnade at State College, Pa. The center will include over 500,000 sq. ft. of new retail and entertainment space, approximately 20,000 sq. ft. of outparcel restaurant and bank space, and an entertainment complex with 14 multiplex theaters. The groundbreaking ceremony for the complex is expected to take place in mid-1999. Kann & Associates, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, specializes in the architecture, planning and interior design of retail properties and food stores; hospitality and entertainment facilities; healthcare and assisted living facilities; and preservation/rehabilitation projects.

Fitzpatrick Design Group Lands Macy's Project New York-based Fitzpatrick Design Group Inc. has been retained by Cincinnati-based Federated Department Stores Inc. to provide interior services for a new, 220,000 sq. ft. Macy's store in Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax, Va. The store is scheduled to open in August 2000.

Also at Fitzpatrick, Milosh Sekulich has been named senior project director. Sekulich, previously an account executive with Walker Group Inc., will be responsible for managing some of the firm's most prestigious accounts.

Design Firms Merge Architectural design firm A/R Architects LLP has joined forces with the Environetics Group, an established premier interior design and planning firm, to form A/R Environetics Group Inc. Headquartered in New York, the new firm provides full-service architecture services, project management, interior design and space management. Partners of the firm are Martin Hertz and Donald White, formerly principals of Environetics, and Kimberly Anguil and David Rush, formerly partners of A/R Architects. Included among the firm's projects are financial services, professional, corporate, technology, retail and restaurant clients.

VOA Associates Gives Cigar Store Authenticity The Orlando office of VOA Associates Inc., an architecture, planning and interior design firm, has completed the interior design for Cigarz at CityWalk, located at Universal CityWalk in Orlando. The two-story, 2,000 sq. ft. combination cigar store/cigar bar is in the style of an authentic 1920s - 1930s cigar drying barn. Authentic touches include old lumber from a circa 1860 barn in New England for the store's columns and trusses, a rusted, corrigated metal ceiling, and an authentic threshing lumber floor.
