Sunrise Targets Affluent Retirees in Metro Denver

Sunrise Senior Living, one of the largest providers of senior living services with more than 440 communities worldwide, is developing a high-end independent living and assisted-care center in Broomfield, Colo., that caters to the affluent.

The Stratford at FlatIrons will provide all the elegance of a five-star hotel, say company officials. The 206-unit development in the northern suburb of Denver will feature a full spectrum of health and wellness services. The development will be located at 400 Summit Blvd. near the popular FlatIron Crossing Shopping Center. Sunrise currently operates 10 assisted living communities in Colorado.

The Stratford at FlatIrons will feature a full-service spa and salon, a 60-seat theatre for movies and theatrical performances, an art studio, and casual and formal dining venues that include a bistro bar. Other features include a geriatric case management and outpatient rehabilitation clinic.

In addition to on-site assisted living, memory care and in-home health care coordination, The Stratford also will offer rehabilitation services, comprehensive health and wellness programs, 24-hour voice-to-voice emergency response systems, and 24-hour security monitoring.

With about 130 employees, The Stratford will feature a Southwestern motif. The project is the first independent living facility that Sunrise has undertaken from the ground up since the company’s inception in 1981. Sunrise is known for modifying existing buildings to desired specifications.

The stock price of Sunrise (NYSE: SRZ), based in McLean, Va., closed at $15.68 per share on Sept. 26. That’s down from its 52-week high of $39.70 reached last October.
