LOS ANGELES – Brookfield Office Properties Inc. (BPO: NYSE, TSX), today announced the expansion of its downtown Los Angeles leasing team. According to John Barganski, regional vice president of leasing for Brookfield, three new executives have been hired: James E. Malone, a former Senior Vice President for Jones Lang LaSalle, has been appointed Vice President, Leasing; Rachael Zanetos, formerly of MPG Office Trust, has joined as Leasing Manager; and Marin Rutherford, also formerly of Jones Lang LaSalle has been appointed Leasing Manager.
Just last month, Brookfield Office Properties, brought four additional Class-A office towers under ownership as part of its successful acquisition of MPG Office Trust, Inc. Brookfield is now downtown Los Angeles’ largest owner of commercial office space, with seven landmark office towers comprising 8.3M square-feet of office and retail space.
“The size and quality of our downtown portfolio dictated that we bring additional top-tier leasing talent in-house,” stated Barganski. “The relationships this team has with the brokerage and tenant communities in the region, combined with their professionalism and knowledge of our portfolio, is certain to add an even higher degree of responsiveness to the demand for space within the Brookfield properties,” he added.
James Malone joins Brookfield as a Vice President-Leasing from his most recent position as Senior Vice President with Jones Lang LaSalle. Specializing in portfolio and transaction management, Mr. Malone has more than 15 years of commercial real estate experience in Los Angeles. Prior to embarking on his real estate career, Malone was an Attorney with Haight Brown & Bonesteel, LLP, in Los Angeles, focusing on employment, commercial and products liability litigation. Mr. Malone earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School. A four-year letterman in Football and an NFL draft pick, Malone is a member of the State Bar of California, a California Real Estate Broker and a Member of the Board of Directors of City Year Los Angeles and the Associates Board of the Los Angeles Commercial Realty Association.
Rachael Zanetos joins Brookfield as Leasing Manger from her most recent position as Leasing Manager with MPG Office Trust Inc. With more than 10 years of real estate experience, Zanetos was responsible for new and renewal lease transactions for a portfolio of approximately 9.5M square feet of Class A office space in Glendale, Santa Monica, Pasadena and Downtown Los Angeles. Ms. Zanetos was also formerly an Account Coordinator and Research Specialist with Cushman & Wakefield in Los Angeles. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, she is a member of Commercial Real Estate Women, CoreNet-Southern California Chapter and a Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) candidate.
Marin Rutherford comes to Brookfield as Leasing Manager from her most recent positions as Financial Analyst and Markets Broker, Associate for Jones Lang LaSalle in Los Angeles. Expert in every phase of the leasing process, from procurement, to tour, to close, Ms. Rutherford has specialized in representing landlords and tenants in Downtown Los Angeles, Pasadena and Glendale. Prior to Jones Lang LaSalle, she was a research assistant at The Investment Company Institute in Washington, DC. Ms. Rutherford is a member of the Los Angeles Commercial Realty Association and volunteer at the Downtown Women’s Center.
