PRESS RELEASE: R.D. Olson Opens New Orange County Hotels

Irvine, Calif. – Nearly one year to the day from breaking ground, R.D. Olson Development has opened the doors on a pair of Orange County hotels in the $60 million Tustin Pacific Center, a 196,000-square-foot, mixed-use hotel and retail development at the 55 Freeway and Edinger Avenue in Tustin, CA. Olson’s latest project includes a 149-suite Residence Inn and a 145-room Fairfield Inn & Suites, both featuring innovative new designs that are the first of their kind in Southern California.

The new Fairfield Inn & Suites showcases Marriott’s latest Generation 4 design with vibrant, inventive public spaces and smart, energetic décor. Guestrooms offer relaxed, comfortable surroundings, ample work areas, contemporary bathrooms and conveniences such as a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator.

The Residence Inn features Marriott’s latest innovations in room design, with modern, well-appointed studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites that offer guests stylish and spacious surroundings. The new Generation 9 suites are designed with fully-equipped kitchens, flexible and efficient workspaces, sectional sofas and luxurious bathrooms. Guestrooms provide a healthy balance between productivity and rest, and are ideal for extended stay guests.

“I think we have the best brands in the market,” said Bob Olson, CEO and founder of R.D. Olson Development. “Both of these hotels promise the utmost in guest experience with an exceptionally well-thought and balanced approach to the varied needs of today’s business and leisure travelers. The Residence Inn offers an excellent extended stay lodging choice, and Fairfield Inn & Suites is a competitive, high quality hotel in its own right.”

The art in the hotel’s public spaces celebrates Tustin’s history, while guestrooms are adorned with lifestyle images of Orange County’s beach communities. Tustin Pacific Center was designed by Gene Fong Associates, with interior architecture by Johnson Braund Design Group, Inc. Perkowitz + Ruth Architects designed the retail component of the project.

The hotels offer a full complement of amenities, including outdoor gathering areas with fire pits, swimming pools and spas, spacious exercise rooms, a sport court, convenience markets, breakfast areas, business centers, guest laundry facilities and meeting space that can accommodate groups of up to 200 people.

A 16,180-square-foot retail center is located at the main entry to the project and will include Starbucks, FedEx Office, Subway and Flame Broiler. One retail bay remains available for lease, as is a freestanding restaurant pad.

Olson purchased the 8.38-acre parcel from the City of Tustin in 2011 with plans to deliver the first new hotels to the Tustin area in more than 15 years. Competed ahead of schedule, the hotels are poised to serve business travelers, leisure guests and groups.

“These new hotels provide the residents and businesses in Tustin with a best-in-class lodging option and will serve the community well for decades to come,” said Tustin Mayor Al Murray. “R.D. Olson has performed at every level on this project, and it has been a pleasure to work with them in enhancing the services infrastructure for the City of Tustin.”

Tustin Pacific Center is centrally located four miles from John Wayne Airport, is a 10-minute drive from Disneyland, and is convenient to Angels Stadium, South Coast Plaza and the beach cities of Orange County. Business travelers will benefit from the hotel’s close proximity to the Irvine Business Complex, Santa Ana Courthouse and Irvine Spectrum businesses.

R.D. Olson and Martelli Investments will retain ownership of the hotels, with Marriott International providing management services. R.D. Olson Construction completed the project 30 days ahead of schedule, allowing Marriott’s management team a sizable head start in organizing the opening of the two hotels.

“The entire project team worked together seamlessly to deliver on Marriott’s contemporary new styling for these hotels,” said Olson. “Our longstanding experience working with Marriott enabled significant efficiencies in the development and construction of the project.”

“R.D. Olson has been our lead California developer over the past five years and continues to develop high quality hotels in high performing markets,” said Eric Jacobs, chief development officer of Marriott’s Select Service and Extended Stay division.
