Century 21, a high-end discount department store, has signed a lease with Millenium Partners for a 61,000-square-foot space on Broadway and 66 Street in New York City. This will be Century 21’s second location in Manhattan and sixth location overall. The retailer plans to open its new store in the fall of 2011.
The space is currently occupied by Barnes & Noble, which has announced plans to leave the property in January of next year. Century 21’s neighbors will include Banana Republic, Gap, Pottery Barn and Gracious Home.
“This move represented a rare opportunity for Century 21 to benefit from a prime retail location that will provide added convenience to many of our existing and potential customers,” said Raymond Gindi, principal of Century 21, in a statement. “We believe 1972 Broadway is already a destination for our customers and potential customers and we are very excited to bring our brand of retailing to the Upper West Side and to become a part of the Lincoln Square community.”

Sports Retailer Signs Lease at Hammond Square
Academy Sports + Outdoors, a sports and lifestyle retailer, has signed a lease for a 70,000-square-foot freestanding store at the Hammond Square Shopping Center in Hammond, La. The center is owned by Stirling Properties. The store is scheduled to open in time for the 2011 back-to-school shopping season. It will be Academy Sports + Outdoors’ 15th store in Louisiana.
Forever 21 Takes Part of Belk’s Store Space at Hamilton Place
Forever 21 signed an agreement with CBL & Associates Properties Inc. and Belk Inc. for a 60,000-square-foot lease at Hamilton Place mall in Chattanooga, Tenn. The store is scheduled to open in early 2011.
Belk is currently in the process of renovating its Hamilton Place store and as part of the $4 million renovation, plans to consolidate its two-story men’s and home department on the first floor of the building. Forever 21 will take the left over space.
BB&B Takes Over Former Linens ‘n Things Space in a 56,500 S/Fat Tysons Corner
Bed Bath & Beyond signed a lease with JBG Rosenfeld Retail for a 56,500-square-foot space at Tysons Corner in Vienna, Va. The property used to house Linens ‘n Things and World Market. Bed Bath & Beyond will relocate its existing store at Tysons Corner to the new location in the fourth quarter of 2010. Bob Schwenger, executive vice president of JBGR, and Jay Klug, vice president, represented the center in the transaction. Les Sax, of Sax Realty, represented the tenant.
DDR Signs Multiple Deals at Macedonia Commons
Developers Diversified Realty Corp. signed leases with Walmart, Hobby Lobby, Five Below, Dots and rue21 at its Macedonia Commons center in Cleveland, Ohio. Hobby Lobby signed a 54,000-square-foot lease and Five Below an 8,000-square-foot lease. Both stores are already operating. Dots, which signed a 5,000-square-foot lease, will open in early 2011.
In addition, Walmart has agreed to an expansion from 121,000 square feet to 167,000 square feet, which will include a full line of groceries and rue21 is expanding from 3,7000 square feet to 4,900 square feet. The expansions are scheduled to be completed by the end of the year.
Three New Tenants Coming to Camarillo Village Square
Donahue Schriber completed leases totaling 38,000 square feet at its Camarillo Village Square in Ventura County, Calif. The new leases include a 16,800-square-foot store for Big 5 Sporting Goods, a 16,800-square-foot PetSmart and a 4,178-square-foot Chase Bank. All three stores will open by the end of the year.
Levin Begins $15M Renovation of Hamilton Plaza
Levin Management Corp. began a $15 million renovation of Hamilton Plaza, a 184,272-square-foot shopping center in Hamilton Township, N.J. The company will reconfigure, expand and update the existing property in conjunction with the expansion of ShopRite, the center’s anchor.
Regency Names Devin Corini VP of Investments
Regency Centers appointed Devin Corini as vice president of investments. Based in the company’s Vienna, Va., office, Corini will be responsible for identifying, evaluating and structuring profitableopportunities throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Corini has 19 years of experience in commercial real estate development. Prior to joining Regency Centers, he served as principal with KLNB Inc.
JLL Promoted Julie Crane Rickey to SVP of Marketing
Jones Lang LaSalle promoted Julie Crane Rickey to senior vice president of marketing. In her new position, Rickey will be responsible for all field marketing efforts for the firm’s 94 million square foot retail portfolio under management. She will oversee regional marketing managers as well as field marketing teams. Rickey joined Jones Lang LaSalle as part of its third party management deal with General Growth Properties. She has 25 years of experienced in retail real estate.
Shoe Retreat signed a lease with the Cafaro Co. for a 15,000-square-foot store at Kentucky Oaks Mall in Paducah, Ky.
Colliers International hired Alan Desino as executive managing director in its New York office. In his new role, Desino will play an integral part in growing Colliers New York office’s tenant representation and corporate services divisions. He has 20 years of experience in real estate. Previously, Desino served as senior vice president with CB Richard Ellis.
BHDPhired Andrew Brezina as retail client leader. Prior to joining BHDP, Brezina served as principal with RIC, a general contractor based in Cincinnati. He has 23 years of experience in retail architecture and construction.
