Ground was broken this week on Carlsbad, Calif.’s first large-scale green building development. Green buildings, which are also known as sustainable projects, use less energy and water than conventional properties. They also have less of an environmental impact on the land.
This particular development, The Towers at Bressi Ranch, will ultimately bring two-dozen green buildings to the Carlsbad area. The space will be divided up between industrial/flex condominium units and stand-alone office condominium units.
Bressi Ranch will be built in two phases: The first phase will bring roughly 160,000 sq. ft. of industrial/flex and office space to the market by next summer. The second phase, which will consist of 120,000 sq. ft., should be completed by early 2009. The units will be priced between $600,000 and $1.7 million, according to developer Ryan Cos.

The project will offer the first Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design registered “green buildings” in the City of Carlsbad. Buildings at The Towers will meet many of the standards developed by the U.S. Green Building Council for high-performance sustainable design and building practices.
