Forest City Washington has begun pre-leasing Foundry Lofts, an adaptive reuse of a historic industrial building located in The Yards, a burgeoning mixed-use development in southeast D.C. near Nationals Park.
Foundry Lofts will feature 170 loft apartments, including 33 two-level penthouse apartments. Planned street-level retail includes Potbelly Sandwich Shop and Kruba Thai and Sushi. The first move-ins at Foundry Lofts are scheduled for this October.
“Adaptive reuse of historical buildings is a rarity in the District,” says Deborah Ratner Salzberg, president of Forest City Washington. “We are excited to bring this residential rebirth to the area with Foundry Lofts.”
With 12-to 14-foot high ceilings and exposed brick and concrete beams, the lofts will retain the urban feel of the historic Navy Yard building housing the units. Rents for one- to two-bedroom loft apartments start at $2,000 per month while rents for penthouses begin at $3,100 per month.
Apartments feature hardwood flooring, stainless steel appliances, granite counters with a glass tile back splash and washer and dryer in every apartment. The two-story penthouse apartments include semi-private outdoor terraces and panoramic views.
The pet-friendly building is within walking distance of the Navy Yard Metro and Nationals Park, home to Major League Baseball’s Washington Nationals.
Forest City Washington is a subsidiary of the Cleveland-based Forest City Enterprises Inc. (NYSE:FCEA and FCEB), which has $11.5 billion in total assets. The company primarily owns, develops, manages and acquires commercial and residential real estate and land throughout the U.S.
