Los Angeles - Locally based Altoon + Porter Architects was recently presented with an ICSC design award in the renovation and expansion category for their work on Sydney's Warringah Mall. The beaches of Australia set the scene as Warringah Mall's retail levels are exposed to the outside world via trellises, arcades, skylights and translucent fabric roof systems. In addition, a series of indoor/outdoor shopping "neighborhoods" reflect the casual style of the northern peninsula. Altoon + Porter's renovation essentially brings the outside world into view for Warringah's existing center as well as the two additional wings. Partner-in-charge of the project was William J. Sebring.
