The Commerce Department's monthly retail sales report carried some unexpected good news: Retail sales rose quite a bit. Sales were 1.2 percent higher than the previous month and 6.3 percent over the same month last year.
That's a lot better than the October results. Still, it's possible the numbers may have been inflated slightly by the calendar shift this year which, in essence, gave retailers one extra week of sales this November in comparison to last year as ICSC pointed out when it released same-store sales figures last week.
