It looks like DSW is ready to join its peers in the big-box space by downsizing some of its new stores to 10,000 sq. ft., from its average 22,000 sq. ft., reports Columbus Business First. The shoe retailer, which plans to open 30 new stores in 2013, will test the first small-format store this fall. The store will carry a shoe selection similar to a regular size DSW, but in smaller numbers.
Columbus Business First reports:
“If successful, these small-format stores will create a new growth vehicle for DSW, which could significantly expand our store count potential,” CEO Mike McDonald told securities analysts this week.
