From the recessed lighting to the mosaic tile floor and blue stained-glass wall, Blue Restaurant & Bar exudes sophistication. Combining deep reds, greens, blues and bronzes with calm, modern décor enhance the new Mediterranean restaurant's ambiance in Charlotte, N.C. The lounge area was the focal point of the space, displaying a prominent, crescent-shaped bar and circular stage as its entertainment area. Though many of the judges thought the design was too dark and kitschy, they were impressed with the architects' ability to mesh tasteful dining accents with the sex appeal of a nightclub. “The mood and Mediterranean idea are well-represented,” says Jeff Gunning, principal at Fort Worth, Texas-based RTKL Associates. “It looks like a fun night.”
