New developments Baltimore - Plans are in the works for Lockwood Place, a mixed-use development on the Inner Harbor in Baltimore. The proposed $110 million project is expected to contain an office tower, retail space, upscale restaurants, a hotel and parking for 740 cars. It is being built on the site of the former Lockwood Building, which was part of the Pratt Street campus of Baltimore City Community College. The college, with the approval of the Board of Public Works, selected Lockwood Associates for the project. King of Prussia, Pa.-based Kravco Co. is the managing partner of Lockwood Associates. Other partners include A&R Development Corp., a Baltimore-based company that specializes in urban design and development, and Parkway Corp., a Philadelphia-based parking facility management company. Construction on the retail portion of Lockwood Place is expected to get under way in spring 2001 and be completed in fall 2002. Tenants that are being targeted are upscale shops and restaurants.

San Antonio - Cleveland-based Developers Diversified Realty and Irving, Texas-based David Berndt Interests have purchased 93 acres in San Antonio for the development of Bandera Pointe. The 650,000 sq. ft. power center is scheduled to break ground later this year with opening planned for spring 2001. The project will consist of more than 30 anchor stores, specialty shops and restaurants. Tenants named to date include Target, Lowe's, T.J. Maxx, Ross Dress For Less, Old Navy, Barnes & Noble, Office Depot and Rack Room Shoes.

Chandler, Ariz. - Phoenix-based Westcor Shopping Centers recently broke ground on a 320-acre urban village in Chandler. Over the next 10 years, the plan will incorporate office parks, a hotel, conference center, residential area and four retail developments. The centerpiece of the project is an upscale, 1.3 million sq. ft. super-regional shopping center, Chandler Fashion Center. Scheduled to open in October 2001, it will feature four anchors, including Nordstrom, Dillard's and Robinsons-May, and 150 specialty shops. Several boutiques, services and restaurants together with a 100,000 sq. ft. movie theater will be featured in the center's outdoor streetscape village.

Portland, Ore. - Plans are in the works for MBK Northwest, a division of Irvine, Calif.-based MBK Real EstateLtd., to develop a lifestyle retail and entertainment center at CascadeStation, a transit-oriented $400 million mixed-use development in Portland. The 380,000 sq. ft. retail component is expected to feature contemporary design, fashion and soft-goods retailers, four to five restaurants, home furnishing stores and a state-of-the-art theater complex. Most of the retail tenants will be oriented at street level around the project's 3,000-foot linear park and "Main Street," being developed by MBK. The retail component is expected to be substantially complete by holiday season 2001. The light rail system that will connect downtown Portland with the nearby airport is scheduled to be completed by fall 2001. Locally based Cascade Station Development Co. LLC is the master developer of the larger mixed-use project.

Lisbon, Conn. and Biddeford, Maine - Chestnut Hill, Mass.-based W/S Development Associates LLC is developing two new projects.

In Connecticut, Lisbon Landing will be a 550,000 sq. ft. community center anchored by Wal-Mart SuperStore, Home Depot and Kohl's Department Store. In Maine, Biddeford Gateway Center will be a 225,000 sq. ft. community center anchored by Home Depot

Center openings Roseville, Calif. - Galleria at Roseville, a 1.1 million sq. ft. development of Chicago-based Urban Shopping Centers Inc., will open its doors next month in Roseville. The regional shopping center will be anchored by Nordstrom, Macy's, JCPenney and Sears and also will feature 120 retail stores, a food court, and several full-service restaurants. The two-level, enclosed mall will reflect the city's rich history and agricultural past. It has been designed to combine traditional architectural elements with Greek Revival-inspired arches and columns. It addition, the center will feature an outdoor promenade area with vine-covered trellises, paving stones and water fountains. Beverly Hills, Calif.-based MCG Architecture is the architect on the project.

Scottsdale, Ariz. - Kierland Commons, a 450,000 sq. ft. development in Scottsdale, has landed Chicago-based Crate & Barrel. The two-level, 36,000 sq. ft. store will mark the entrance to the development, which also features tenants such as Anthropologie, Artafax, Briggs & Riley, Lucky Brand, Restoration Hardware, Smith & Hawken and Z Gallerie.

Major tenant happenings Crate & Barrel and several other stores are expected to open in late summer with the center's grand opening planned for October. Kierland Commons is a development of Woodbine Southwest Corp., a subsidiary or Dallas-based Woodbine Development Corp., and locally based Herberger Interests.
