The newest entry in the Florida retail sweepstakes is Dolphin Mall, a two-level project by Bloomington Hills, Mich.-based Taubman Co. and Hollywood, Fla.-based developer Michael Swerdlow. The 1.4 million sq. ft. center is currently under construction and is slated for completion in March of 2001.
Dolphin Mall is located at the intersection of Dolphin Expressway and the Florida Turnpike, five miles from the Miami International Airport. Special shuttles will take customers to and from the airport, allowing Dolphin Mall to capitalize on long layovers by international passengers.
The mall is already 80% leased with anchors such as Saks Off-Fifth Avenue Outlet, Group USA, Burlington Coat Factory, Marshall's Mega Store, Ross Dress For Less, Old Navy and Oshman's SuperSports USA. Regal Cinemas also plans to open a 28-screen theater.
Dolphin Mall is based on a racetrack layout and will be split into five "zonas" (Latin for zones) that reflect different attributes of the Latino culture. The mall will also have bilingual signage and visitor amenities that include multiple information and rest stations, family restroom facilities, a two-level restaurant/entertainment area and a children's play area.
