Hilton Denver South/Meridian opens in Englewood, Colo. Hilton Hotels Corp. has opened a 157-room, six-story Hilton Garden Denver South/Meridian in Englewood, Colo. Located in the Meridian International Business Center, the facility is owned by an affiliate of Atlanta-based Hardin Capital LLC.

The hotel features 1,800 sq. ft. of meeting space, a glass-walled Pavilion housing the reception desk and a 24-hour complimentary business center.

Operated under a license agreement with Hilton Inns Inc. - the franchise subsidiary of Beverly Hills, Calif.-based Hilton Hotels Corp. - the Hilton Garden Denver South/Meridian represents one of approximately 15 Hilton Garden Inn hotels that Hardin is developing with Hilton Hotels.

Loews puts New York portfolio on the block New York-based Loews Hotels has retained Sonnenblick-Goldman Co., also of New York, to arrange the sale of a portfolio of hotels including the Loews New York Hotel, the Howard Johnson Hotel and the Days Hotel in Manhattan.

A full-service property located on Lexington Ave. at 51st, the Loews New York Hotel contains 722 rooms, 12,500 sq. ft. of meeting space and a 200-space garage. The Howard Johnson Hotel and Days Hotel - which have been undergoing renovations since 1996 - both opened in 1962. They are both located on Eighth Avenue near the city's Theatre District.

Timeshare sales reach record highs A report released by the American Resort Development Association (ARDA) shows that the international timeshare industry has reached record sales volume. According to the report, since 1994, the number of projects worldwide grew by 24% and total ownership has increased by 59%. Annual timeshare sales revenue is estimated to be more than $6 billion.

The United States contains the world's largest number of timeshare resorts and timeshare owners, with 33% of all timeshare resorts. The percentage represents nearly 2 million owners and $3.06 billion in revenue, or approximately 50% of the world's total timeshare sales revenue.

Europe is the next-preferred place of ownership with more than 1,300 resorts and 742,000 owners. Combined, the United States and Europe contain 60% of worldwide resorts and 60% of worldwide owners.

Construction of a $13 million Homewood Suites hotel in Chesterfield, Mo., is slated for completion in early-2000. The three-story, 145-room facility is being developed by St. Louis-based Sachs Properties.

The 98,000 sq. ft. hotel will be located at Chesterfield Village and is designed to blend in with its adjoining residential neighborhood. Features of the facility will include a 1,200 sq. ft. meeting room, a 500 sq. ft. board room, an outdoor pool and a fully-equipped exercise room.

Microtel's 150thproperty opens in Kansas In June, Hutchinson, Kan.-based Leisure Hotels LLC, opened its 150th Microtel Inn & Suites. Located in Hutchinson, the hotel sits one mile from the city's airport and three miles from Hutchinson Community College.

Leisure Hotels, which entered into an alliance with Atlanta-based U.S. Franchise Systems, is currently developing an additional Microtel in Independence, Kan., and also intends to build Microtels throughout Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma. Currently, there are 545 Microtels open or in development in 49 states, Central and South America, and the Caribbean.
