Mission Valley Gateway

Gateway's short-lived flagship store looked more like the home of a high-tech aficionado than a showroom floor. The computer maker, which shuttered its stores in April, jettisoned its cowhide look for a stylized showroom. AIRvision recreated a model home, complete with credenzas, leather sofas, bookshelves and domestic lighting, what was to be the new prototype presented the shopper with a wonderland of electronics: plasma flat screen TVs, MP3 players and personal computers. The artwork used in the wallpaper, wayfinding and overhead banners is all part of an original 60-foot mural that speaks to Gateway's history, technology and brand. A total of 180 existing stores were scheduled for remodeling.
