In late April, major retailers in New York, in areas of New England and on the West Coast were limiting purchases of flour, rice and cooking oil as supplies of such staples had begun to run thin. There is a global food crisis that has sparked riots in Mexico, Italy, Bangladesh, Haiti and elsewhere. Now the crisis has hit the United States. The caps on buying have primarily been reported at warehouse club operators, including Costco and Sam's Club.
