Jacksonville, Fla. - Work is under way on the demolition and reconstruction of Roosevelt Square Mall, a 30-year-old shopping center in Jacksonville. The 316,800 sq. ft. new strip center, expected to be completed in mid-1998, will feature a new, 51,000 sq. ft. Publix supermarket and 62,300 sq. ft. of retail space. The existing Gayfers Department Store will remain as a freestanding building, and the existing Stein Mart store will move into the vacated Publix space. Roosevelt Square is a development of Atlanta-based Dewberry Capital. Maitland, Fla.-based Keene Construction Co. is the general contractor.
Chicago - The 180,000 sq. ft. Chatham Ridge shopping center on Chicago's south side has gone from 50 percent to 75 percent occupied since redevelopment efforts began early last year. Home Depot has opened a 125,000 sq. ft. store at the site, adjacent to a Cineplex Odeon 14-screen theater. In addition, a 30,857 sq. ft. Marshalls store and a 12,096 sq. ft. Bally's Total Fitness health club recently opened, with an 8,656 sq. ft. Super Trak auto parts store scheduled to open later. Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.-based Mid-America Asset Management Co. is the leasing/management agent for the center, which is owned by the Chicago office of The Travelers.
