Construction crews raised the 500,000-pound historic dome of the old San Francisco Emporium building 60 feet to accommodate the renovation of Westfield America and Forest City's Westfield San Francisco Center on Market Street. The 100 foot wide, steel-and-glass dome was lifted slowly by massive jacks in a four-hour process. The raised dome lets natural light flow inside and restores the building's architectural signature. Previous renovations had hidden it from view.
