Tri-land Properties, Inc. began construction on the redevelopment of Cherokee South Plaza, a 118,000-sq.-ft. neighborhood shopping center in Overland Park, Kan. The $23 million redevelopment will include the demolition of one building, the addition of 27,000 sq. ft. of new space, replacement of old facades and a new parking lot. The project is scheduled for completion in the summer of 2009.
Developers Diversified, through its joint venture partnership Sonae Sierra Brazil, will develop an 840,000-sq.-ft. shopping center in Goiania, Brazil. Completion is scheduled for 2011.
CBL & Associates Properties, Inc. and Tenco Realty broke ground for Plaza Macae, a 243,000-sq.-ft. shopping center in Macae, Brazil. CBL has a 60 percent interest in the center.
Buchanan Street Partners hired Dominic Petrucci as its new CFO. Petrucci has more than 20 years of experience in real estate. During the course of his career, he has overseen approximately $1.2 billion in acquisition and financing deals.
Guardian Management LLC hired Bob Osbrink as president for Southern California, Arizona and Oregon and a member of its board of advisors. Osbrink has 30 years of experience in commercial real estate. Prior to joining Guardian Management, he served as president of the transaction services group with Grubb & Ellis.

Tanger Outlet Centers opened a $90 million Tanger Outlet Center in Washington, Pa.
The Fedder Co. started renovations on the Pikesville Town Center, a 12,000-sq.-ft. property in Baltimore. The renovations will include the creation of a new courtyard and new facades. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2008.
Opus broke ground for the Spirit River Crossings, a 250,000-sq.-ft. power center in Cambridge, Minn. Phase I is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2009.
NewMark Merrill Cos. broke ground for the Thousand Oaks Marketplace, a $40 million, 155,000-sq.-ft. retail development in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
The Parrish Group will develop Persimmon Hill, a mixed-use project in Tallahassee, Fla. When completed, the project will contain 100,000 sq. ft. of retail, restaurant and office space and 20 home units. Phase I is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2009.
Combined Properties, Inc. opened the Commons at La Verne, a $29 million redevelopment project in La Verne, Calif. The redevelopment included the demolition of most of the center's structures and raising the site to give the property an elevated presence, as well as a 20,000-sq.-ft. expansion.
RTKL hired Douglas McCoach as vice president and director in the firm's Washington, D.C. planning and urban design studio. McCoach has more than 20 years of experience in design. He first worked for RTKL as an architect and then as a vice president.
