Hand & Stone Opens at Shoppes at North Brunswick

NORTH BRUNSWICK, NJ—As massage therapies become a more mainstream approach to relaxation, rejuvenation, and improving overall health and wellness, businesses that cater to consumers’ need for convenient and affordable services are thriving. Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa illustrates this trend with its newly opened 2,166-square-foot location at The Shoppes at North Brunswick in North Brunswick, N.J. The open-air lifestyle center is owned by New York-based Garrison Investment Group and managed by Levin Management.

Levin's leasing representative Jake Frantzman negotiated the long-term lease. Todd Sussman of Colliers International served as the tenant's broker in the transaction.

“Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa typically expands in upscale, high-traffic markets,” Frantzman said in a statement. “The Shoppes at North Brunswick’s existing tenant mix—comprised of numerous high-end women’s apparel retailers such as Anthropologie, Chico’s and Banana Republic, among others —was very complementary to the type of clientele Hand & Stone Massage expects to draw.”

Launched in 2005, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa has become one of the fastest-growing retailers in its segment, carving a unique niche by offering a highly customized spa experience to clients at a reasonable price. The retailer is open seven days a week and also provides a full range of facial and body waxing services, as well as a customer membership program.

Situated at the intersection of routes 1 and 130 in Central New Jersey’s Middlesex County, The Shoppes at North Brunswick offers a diverse assortment of upscale retail, restaurant and service tenants. The center boasts a five-mile population of 248,969, a daily traffic count of more than 120,600 vehicles, and five-mile average median household income of $72,595. The property’s office component adds hundreds of employees and visitors daily.

According to a recent survey by the American Massage Therapy Association, rather than seeking massage services solely for relaxation and pampering purposes, more individuals are also turning to this therapy to assist with medical conditions and pain relief. In fact, 87 percent of respondents viewed massage as being beneficial to overall health and wellness.

“Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa has been expanding throughout New Jersey; and Middlesex County represents a key market for this brand’s growth,” Michael Cohen, Levin’s vice president of leasing, said in a statement. “We are pleased that Hand & Stone has decided to bring its customer-focused services to The Shoppes at North Brunswick, giving local shoppers another reason to visit our center.”
