NEW YORK-Working on behalf of the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America, Jones Land LaSalle’s capital markets experts has closed the first phase of an agreement to preserve 43 acres of the William H. Pouch Scout Camp on Staten Island. Senior Vice President William Bingham and International Director Raymond Quartararo led the Jones Lang LaSalle team on the transaction.
The Trust for Public Land acquired the conservation easement and will hold it until it is transferred to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation within the next 30 days.
The sale of the initial 43-acre, $5 million easement will will protect a portion of the camp from future development and was funded by state and local agencies, with Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, along with City Councilmembers Vincent Ignizio and James Oddo, leading the effort to secure the initial funding through the New York City budget.
To complete the project, an additional $10 million is needed over the next two years.
“We are so pleased at the outcome of this agreement that will allow the Boy Scouts to make Pouch Camp an enduring ecological and public resource, with permanent restrictions for development of the property, managed by entities truly dedicated to its preservation,’ said Charles E. Rosser, Scout executive and chief executive officer with the Greater New York Councils, Boy Scouts of America.
