After more than five years as chief economist with commercial real estate research firm Reis, Sam Chandan, a noted source for industry research and commentary, has moved on.
In a brief announcement posted on his personal Web site, Chandan states, “After five and a half extraordinary years, I have concluded my term as chief economist at Reis. During this time, our industry has experienced tremendous growth and, more recently, has faced unprecedented challenges. In the face of an increasingly mutable market, the forums for my contribution and expertise are now poised to evolve and expand in a new and exciting direction. It is with this in mind that I look forward, over the coming weeks and months, to contributing to our understanding of conditions in the macro economy and the fast-changing policy environment, and to keeping you informed of my new endeavors.”
Responding to a call for comment, Kyle McLaughlin, a Reis financial analyst and former associate of Chandan, would only state that Chandan “is no longer connected with Reis,” without providing any additional clarification.
McLaughlin also declined to comment on whether a replacement has been found for Chandan.
