LAS VEGAS -- The 2001 ICSC Spring Convention opened today with organizers predicting strong attendance for the shopping center industry's biggest annual event.
According to ICSC registration data, around 29,000 people will attend this year's show, dubbed “Three in One in 2001: The One for You."
"Three-in-one" because, for the first time, the show's three main components -- the Leasing Mall, Trade Expo and educational sessions -- will run concurrently.
Monday's breakfast talk, which dealt with the topic of “Smart Growth,” was given by Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening.
A Monday morning session at the Hilton, led by officials from several major cities, covers “Public/Private Collaboration in the Development of Successful Retail Projects.”
Monday's lunch topic is "Shared Memories: The Lessons of History" by presidential scholar, author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Later in the afternoon, Andrew Shapiro, a leading technology analyst, will facilitate a discussion on the latest Internet trends.
