The Plant Sprouts Concept Store in Final Anchor Space

A retail power center developed on the site of a former General Electric motor manufacturing plant in San Jose, Calif., has completed leasing of its 10 anchor store spaces. Among the new retailers is a 64,000 sq. ft. Babies “R” Us and Toys “R” Us superstore concept, the first of its kind in Northern California.

San Francisco-based Westrust is developing The Plant, a 646,000 sq. ft. regional retail center that is the largest power center ever built in San Jose. The project includes approximately 500,000 sq. ft. of anchors and 141,000 sq. ft. of specialty retail and dining. Other anchors include Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, PetSmart, Ross, Off Broadway, Office Max and Alta. Specialty retailers now open include Justice for Girls, Bath & Body Works, Payless ShoeSource and Styles for Less.

Westrust is developing The Plant in a joint venture with Pacific Coast Capital Partners and Vornado Realty Trust. The $142 million retail destination includes the renovation of a 60-year-old former General Electric office building that will be renovated into a mixed-use structure with retail on the ground floor and office space above it. In addition, The Plant features a 2,000 sq. ft. community center and a Town Square with a central park, restaurants and boutiques.
