Gresham Station is the first phase of a significant mixed-use, urban transit-oriented project called Gresham Civic Neighborhood. The project consists of walkable blocks of approximately 200 by 300 feet. Gresham Station incorporates urban attributes such as higher densities, pedestrian-scaled architecture and amenities, articulation of individual storefronts, wide sidewalks and public plazas and easy access to public transportation. Design guidelines for the area were established to help create a varied and authentic village atmosphere. In addition, the architect worked with tenants to maximize the benefits of having sidewalk-adjacent storefronts. Awnings, gooseneck lamps, rich stones and textures at the pedestrian level create a warm feeling. The project incorporates an authentic mix of materials and varied roofscapes to create an urban feel as if the project developed over time.
Civic leaders, community members, mass-transit specialists, the developer, architects and planners worked together to create a development that fosters a sense of place, incorporates public transit, and meets the needs and concerns of the community.
