This new three-story retail complex is adding uptown flair to LA's Koreatown and is fast becoming the premier shopping destination for the Korean community of Southern California, as well as for tourists visiting from abroad. The contemporary design of the enclosed center features an atrium with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, resulting in a light and airy interior. The center's generous common areas, featuring intricate floor paving, a reflecting pool and ample seating, are designed to be a community gathering place. The project's street faade features oversized ground-floor windows and wide doorways that beckon pedestrians to step into the cultural oasis within. The project offers a contemporary shopping environment while incorporating elements of Korean art and culture. Kites and other Korean-influenced banners are under consideration for the project's allocation for public art. The anchor tenant, H.K. Market, is the flagship store of the Korean grocery chain known for its value-priced Korean foods and specialty vendors. The center is a true reflection of the community, incorporating the Korean community's architectural heritage and retail choices, while satisfying the community's desire to integrate into an American shopping experience.
