The design objective for Seibu Shibuya's women's designer shoe floor was to reposition the department to upscale, working women. The end result was a retail environment described by the client as an irresistible heaven for shoe maniacs. The new concept presents shoes in four merchandise zones: "Import Selection" contains upscale, fashion-forward designer shoes. This zone is defined by exaggerated modern shapes in glass and glowing materials, contrasted with charcoal carpet, dark mahogany, wood flooring, white lacquer and native hemlock. "The Marketplace" displays advanced fashion-leader shoes and is characterized by natural oak slabs with merchandised shelves suspended on wires with vivid upholstery colors in modern microfibers. "Character and Basic" is for young, upcoming designers. This zone is set off with clear acrylic fixturing in futuristic shapes set against white lacquer and gold-toned geometric wallpaper. The established designer brands of the "Established Import" zone are showcased with black lacquer cabinets contrasted with monolithic white interiors and free-standing fixtures of black lacquer metalwork with crystal acrylic slab tops. Banquettes of white aniline-dyed leather with charcoal gray accents enhance the look.
