Created by the National Multi Housing Council (NMHC) in 1991 and based in Washington, D.C., the American Seniors Housing Association (ASHA) represents the interests of the most prominent firms participating in seniors housing. ASHA'S members are engaged in all aspects of the development and operation of housing for older adults, including construction, finance and management of seniors apartments, congregate seniors housing, assisted living, and continuing care retirement communities.
ASHA has played an integral role in seniors housing advocacy by focusing on long-term care policy, state regulations, tax policy, building codes, property management and finance. ASHA's founders established the association so professional owners and managers can play a key role in shaping the legislative and regulatory agenda of the seniors housing industry.
In addition to emphasizing seniors housing advocacy, ASHA is committed to expanding the scope of industry research. ASHA has published a wide variety of definitive monographs and reports. Topics include seniors housing finance, operation performance, fair housing, acquisitions, construction, long-term care policy, building codes, and other pertinent issues.
ASHA's quarterly meetings provide a vital forum for industry leaders to discuss strategic issues affecting all types of seniors housing. Members probe a litany of concerns and opportunities facing seniors housing businesses. Prominent government officials routinely appear at ASHA's meetings to provide updates on legislative and regulatory activities of interest to seniors housing organizations.
For those interested in joining the seniors housing industry's leadership, ASHA welcomes inquiries to its Washington offices at 202/974-2300, or you can visit the ASHA/NMHC home page at www.asha.nmhc.org.
